FOR CANDIDATES TO RUN FOR PUBLIC OFFICE ON THE
CONSTITUTION PARTY LINE WE MUST COLLECT PETITIONS!

The office that you are seeking requires 5% of the last election votes for that office. It is best to get more than needed as the opposition will challenge some signatures.

There is a time limit and a starting date required by state election law. Most information can be found at www.elections.state.ny.us

Petition signatures gathering starts July, 10,2007 and ends August 14, 2007 when petitions are padded and submitted to the county board of elections, (for local races).

Who can gather signatures: Any voter registered in New York State can gather signatures for any candidate in New York State. You do not have to live in the candidate's district to collect signatures.

Who can sign: To be eligible to sign a petition for a candidate, a person must be registered to vote in the district in which the candidate is running. If they have already signed a petition for another candidate for the same office they are not eligible.

A575/S29 are companion bills introduced into the NY Assembly and NY Senate respectively which would decrease the number of signatures on nominating and designating petitions by 1/2. The net effect of this legislation will be to increase competition in the political arena.

Several individuals have successfully lobbied their legislators to support this legislation, and a coordinated, comprehensive lobbying effort is now beginning.
